Meet Self Help Board Member – Fish

Why did you join Self Help’s Board?

I joined the Self Help Board because I believe in empowering people with dignity, compassion, and practical support during difficult times. Self Help’s flexible approach addresses immediate needs while helping individuals and families build stability and improve their long-term outcomes. I am honored to support an organization that makes such a meaningful difference in our community.

What’s your favorite part of being a member of SH?

My favorite part of serving on the Self Help Board is connecting with like-minded people who are committed to helping others and hearing the meaningful stories of how Self Help has positively impacted lives in our community.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering?

What I enjoy most about volunteering is connecting with people and seeing the difference even a small act of kindness can make, whether through a warm smile, a handshake, or a simple thank you. Volunteering fills my cup and allows me to give back to a community that has blessed me with an incredible network of support throughout my life.

How has being a member of Self Help impacted your career or personal growth?

Serving on the Self Help Board has helped me grow personally by deepening my understanding of the needs within our communities and how I can make a meaningful difference. Along with my involvement in other volunteer organizations, it has broadened my perspective and helped me model for my children the importance of compassion, service, and paying it forward.

I am a proud donor to Self Help because I have seen firsthand how support during a difficult time can give someone the encouragement and resources needed to keep moving forward. I give through LANL’s employee giving program because the matching contribution helps amplify my donation and make an even greater impact in our community.
