TECHO FUND

Queer youth are 120% more likely to become homeless than straight and cisgender peers.

Started in 2021, Techo Fund (Spanish for “roof”) is designated especially for housing for LGBTQ youth. The fund was started in response to requests from caring community members, who wanted a way to give to this important cause. When you donate to the Techo Fund, your donation will be be used for home-related expenses for queer youth up to age 22:

  • Emergency hotel vouchers to bridge gaps between housing situations for short periods
  • Deposit assistance to help people move into a new home, or rent assistance to keep them in a current one
  • Furnishings, utility aid, accessibility modifications, or other things that make a house a real home
  • Other needs which are instrumental to housing–car repair for a youth living in a vehicle, medication aid for a youth needing mental stability to access housing, vital document replacement, etc.

Self Help collaborates with partners at LGBTQ and youth services organizations to identify clients for Techo. With these collaborative partnerships, we develop sustainable, caring plans for housing sustainability. Any Self Help caller can be eligible for these services.
